To estimate operational costs
Identifying factors that influence cost
Such as connector types, action complexity and workflow frequency
Optimising Azure Logic Apps design
To avoid unnecessary actions or expensive connectors
Monitoring usage trends
To support financial management and governance
Azure Logic Apps Pricing and Cost
Understand how Azure Logic Apps pricing and cost impact your automation strategy
At Claria, we help organisations evaluate and manage Azure Logic Apps pricing and cost.
Azure Logic Apps uses a usage-based pricing model, where you are charged for the number of workflow executions, triggers, actions and connectors used. Unlike traditional software licensing, your costs are determined by how your workflows are designed and how often they run.
See Azure Logic Apps PricesKey factors affecting Azure Logic Apps pricing and cost
Several elements determine the overall cost of using Azure Logic Apps:
Pricing plan selection
Choosing between the Consumption Plan (pay-per-execution) or the Standard Plan (fixed capacity with predictable costs).
Workflow execution frequency
How often workflows run in response to schedules or events.
Actions and connectors used:
Certain connectors (such as SAP, IBM MQ) incur higher charges as enterprise connectors.
Workflow complexity
More actions, conditions or branches result in additional billable operations.
Hybrid integration needs
Using on-premises data gateway or B2B features may influence overall pricing.
While Microsoft publishes base rates, the actual cost of Azure Logic Apps depends on how workflows are structured, deployed and scaled within your organisation.
How Azure Logic Apps works
Azure Logic Apps operates through a visual, event-driven workflow model that makes automation and integration easy to design and execute.
This visual, modular approach makes it easy to automate complex business processes without writing extensive code.
Here’s how it works in simple steps:
1. Trigger the Workflow
Every Logic App starts with a trigger. An event that kicks off the workflow. This could be a new email, a file being uploaded, a timer, or an HTTP request.
2. Define the Workflow Steps
Once triggered, the app follows a sequence of actions you define. These actions can include calling APIs, sending emails, transforming data, or integrating with other services.
3. Use Connectors for Integration
Logic Apps includes prebuilt connectors to link with over 600 services such as Office 365, Salesforce, SQL Server, SAP and more, making it easy to interact with different platforms.
4. Add Conditions and Loops
Workflows can include conditional logic, loops and error handling to manage different scenarios, retries, or branching paths based on data or events.
5. Run in the Cloud or Hybrid Environment
Workflows execute in the cloud but can also connect securely to on-premises systems using the Azure gateway, enabling hybrid automation.
6. Monitor and Manage
Azure provides a built-in monitoring dashboard where you can track executions, view logs and troubleshoot issues in real-time.
When to use Azure Logic Apps
Azure Logic Apps is most valuable in scenarios where automation, integration and scalability are priorities. It is well suited when you need to:
Automate manual, repetitive business processes
Reduce manual effort by creating workflows that operate across systems without user intervention. Examples include order processing, employee onboarding or approval workflows that connect multiple systems.
Integrate different systems
Connect cloud and on-premises applications such as CRM, ERP and databases without custom development, allowing data to move reliably across platforms.
Run scheduled or event-based tasks
Trigger workflows based on a specific time (for example, daily report generation) or an event (such as a file upload in SharePoint), reducing reliance on manual processes.
Synchronise data between systems in real time
Maintain consistency by automatically transferring or transforming data between platforms like Salesforce, Dynamics 365 and Azure SQL.
Azure Logic Apps is the right choice when you need a low-code approach to connect systems, automate workflows and manage processes efficiently across diverse environments.

Azure Logic Apps FAQs
A Logic App is composed of:
Triggers: Events that start the workflow
Actions: Steps that follow the trigger
Connectors: Integrations with services such as Office 365, SAP, SQL Server, Salesforce and more
Azure Logic Apps is focused on workflow orchestration using a visual designer, ideal for integration and automation across services. Azure Functions is a serverless compute service used to write custom code in response to events. The two services are often used together.
Not exactly. Azure Logic Apps is not a traditional ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tool, but it can perform similar operations depending on the use case.
It’s best described as an integration and workflow automation platform. Logic Apps is often used for EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) and light ETL-style processes, such as:
Extracting data from one system (e.g. SQL, SAP, or Salesforce)
Applying basic transformations or logic
Loading it into another system or triggering an action
For complex data transformation and bulk data movement, tools like Azure Data Factory or Azure Synapse Pipelines are more appropriate. However, Logic Apps can complement these by handling event-driven automation, real-time integrations and API workflows.
A Logic App Standard resource can have multiple workflows inside one app. However, a Logic App (Consumption) can have only one workflow for each Logic App.
Azure Logic Apps supports Managed Identities to securely connect to other Azure services without storing credentials. You can also use Azure Key Vault to manage secrets and API keys securely within your workflows.
